Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (Sudden Infant Death Sydrome) refers to the sudden death of a baby or toddler who is completely unanticipated in his medical history and whose post-mortem examination can not determine the cause of death. Near miss SIDS refers to infants who have asphyxiation for 20 seconds or longer, need recovery, and some later die from SIDS. Apnea refers to an inexplicable apnea process, lasting 20 seconds or longer; or shorter but accompanied by bradycardia, bruising or pale.
