Because, since,as and for的用法和比较作以下分析。
1.Please drop in often, for we are always eager to see you.(请常来坐坐,我们总是热望见到你。)
2.Since force is no remedy, let us try conciliation.(既然武力无济于事,让我们试试和谈吧。)
3.As it is going to rain, let’s stop working.(因为要下雨了,我们停止工作吧。)
4.I know Mr. Green didn’t go with them, because I saw him just now.(我知道戈林先生没有和他们一道去,因为我刚才看见他。)
1.That youth has been praised because he works hard without complaint.(那位青年被表扬,因为他工作努力毫无怨言。)
2.I did it because I thought it would help you so much.(我做这事是因为我认为它会对你有很大帮助的。)
1.I offered to take responsibility upon myself because the secretary asked me to do so.(我主动提出自己负责是秘书要我这么做的。)
2.I asked him to come for a moment, for I had something to tell him.(我请他过来一会儿,因为我有事要告诉他。)
1.Since he had come, you had to help him .(既然他来了,你就得帮助他。)
2.As he had come, you had to help him.(因为他来了,你得帮助他。)
三
as, for, because和 since 是同义, 有时可通用, 但还有区别:as和since强调后果,since比as更强调理由;由for和because则强调原因,而because又比for的效果更强些。例如:
1.As that was not my name,(of course) I didn’t answer.(因为那不是我的名字,我(当然)不回答。)
2.Since that was not my name, I didn’t answer.(既然那不是我的名字,我不回答。)
3.I didn’t answer for that was not my name.
