Objective To systematically evaluate the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of developing kidney stones. Methods A comprehensive case-control study and cohort study of the relationship between BMI and kidney stones at home and abroad were performed in a comprehensive search of Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane, CNKI and Wan Fang Data, VIP databases. After the search, the literature screening, data extraction and quality evaluation were completed. The whole process was completed independently by two researchers respectively. Finally, the data collected were analyzed by Meta-analysis using RevMan 5.3 software. Results A total of 5 studies, 3 case-control studies and 2 cohort studies were included. The results of heterogeneity test and sensitivity analysis showed that the risk of kidney stones in overweight and obesity group was significantly higher than that in normal group (OR = 1.92, 95% CI = (1.79, 2.05). Conclusions BMI is related to kidney stones. Overweight or obesity is a risk factor for kidney stones.
