本课题依据现代远程教育理论和现代学习理论的原则,以马克思主义认识论的基本原理为指导,从人才培养实际上就是学生通过自主学习掌握知识,又通过实践教学环节将知识转化为能力这样一个过程出发,对教学过程中培养学生掌握知识的能力和应用知识的能力,也即体现毕业生培养质量的这两个主要方面进行了实地调研和比较深入的研究。重点探讨和研究了学生自主学习过程的发现性质,学生自主学习与自主性发展目标,学生自主学习过程实现的前提、基础和途径,以及实践教学环节中实践教学基地的建设、组织实施、质量监控与评价以及根据实践教学环节的不同内容所应采取的不同教学模式等问题,并在此基础上,结合新疆电大完善教学支持服务体系在做法和管理与服务并举的“全过程管理”教学管理模式为基础,总结出了新疆电大基于保证人才培养目标实现和新疆地域特点的“导学—自学—互学—助学”四环互动(或称“四要素联动”)的教学模式。同时,还通过建校以来第一次大规模和大范围的远程开放教育毕业生追踪调查,从社会用人单位和毕业生两个方面对电大毕业生质量进行了较为客观和公正的评价,获得了毕业生对电大人才培养方式改革和教学改革效果的真实评价。整个课题项目研究和调查的结论有助于加强对学生自主学习过程的指导和监控,强化实践教学环节,努力提高教学质量和人才培养的质量。
