随着中国即将加入世贸,人们多把焦点移向上海。 历史的交错,使上海和香港角色互调。这两个背景相似的东方商埠,在百多年半洋半土的杂交文化下,相互竞爭,此起彼落。19世纪后期,上海最先在南京西路出现的国际饭店,宣告了它远东第一商埠的地位。1936年,香港汇丰银行的落成,显示了经济逐渐南移。1972年启用的52层的康乐大厦(即现今之怡和大厦),为当时亚洲最高建筑,从此确定了香港在亚洲的角色。
With China’s imminent accession to the WTO, most people are more focused on Shanghai. The stagnation of history has intermodal the roles of Shanghai and Hong Kong. The two oriental commercial ports with similar backgrounds compete with each other over the centuries-old hybrid culture. In the late 19th century, Shanghai first appeared on the Nanjing Road International Hotel, declared its position as the Far East’s first commercial port. The completion of Hong Kong’s HSBC in 1936 shows that the economy is gradually moving southward. The 52-storey Leisure Building (now the Jardine House), opened in 1972, was the tallest building in Asia at the time and has since defined Hong Kong’s role in Asia.
