Objective To explore the factors that affect the secretion of tear fluid in college students and provide scientific basis for guiding college students to use eye hygiene. Methods A total of 284 college students from Shanghai Medical College were enrolled in the study. Age, gender, number of mobile terminals (MT), time of use, daily study time, contact lenses Wearing condition, blink frequency, eye history, local eye drops usage. Schirmer test (ST), tear test (TBUT) and fluorescein staining (FLS) were performed. Results The average TBUT of boys was (4.65 ± 2.86) s, higher than that of girls (4.04 ± 2.46) s, the difference was not statistically significant (P> 0.05). The mean of ST was (19.58 ± 10.18) mm and that of boys ± 10.57) mm, and girls (19.78 ± 10.09) mm, the difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.517). FLS positive 16 (4.58%), blinking frequency range of 0 ~ 38 beats / min, an average of (9.96 ± 7.28) times. Tears affected 219 (77.1%). Logistic regression analysis showed that gender, MT duration, wearing soft contact lenses and blink frequency had statistically significant effects on tear secretion (all P <0.05). Conclusion The abnormal tear secretion of college students is a very common problem. Sex, the use of mobile terminals, wearing soft contact lenses and blink frequency of four factors on the impact of college students tear secretion.
