The radiant heat was used to induce the latency of the tail flick (TF) reflex in shallow-hemp rats. The analgesic effects of different intensities of electroacupuncture and the microinjection of 5-HT2 receptor antagonist thienogene into the subthalamic central nucleus (Sm) Effect of pyridine (CPT) on its effects. The results showed that the weak electroacupuncture (0.05 m A) “Zusanli” could only inhibit the TF reflex of rats lightly, while the inhibition of strong electroacupuncture (5 m A) on TF reflex was obviously more than that of the weak electroacupuncture; Microinjection of CPT (50 ng) mildly facilitated the TF reflex and markedly reduced the analgesic effect of EA, but had no effect on EA. Suggesting that 5-HT and its receptor subtypes (5-HT2 receptors) in Sm may be involved in the analgesic effect of strong electroacupuncture and have a strong downward inhibitory effect
