The authors analyzed 165 cases of oral squamous cell carcinoma with radiotherapy, of which tongue cancer 85 and mucosal floor cancer were 80 cases. There were 43 cases of stage I cancer, 87 cases of stage II, and 35 cases of stage III. 50 cases were irradiated by tissue alone and 115 cases were treated by intra-tissue irradiation combined with distant gamma rays. Twenty-nine cases of ~(252)Cf radioactive sources were used for intra-tissue irradiation, and ~(60)C080 cases were used. The total internal organ irradiation dose of 60 to 70 Gy alone, combined radiotherapy 70 to 80 Gy and additional external dose 40 to 44 Gy. Radioactive complications occurred in 35 cases (21.2%). From May to December after radiotherapy, 27 cases occurred and 1 to 1.58 cases occurred. There were 14 cases of radioactive tongue ulcers, 11 cases of ulceration of the floor of the mouth, and 10 cases of mandibular osteomyelitis.
