Canadian author Michael Ondać described Toronto in the 1920s and “1940s” in his 1987 novel, “The Lioness,” in which he reconstructed the city’s development. The novel shows the encounter, conflict and transformation of different cultures in urban space and points out the possibility of new cultural production. This new culture is neither a continuation of British culture nor a multicultural arrangement. It has independence, inclusiveness and vitality, with a mix of features.
