In the 1990s, Russia, as its main heir, did not slow down the development of air-to-air missiles after the disintegration of the former Soviet Union. On the contrary, Russia’s air-to-air missile technology went a step further on the existing basis. Its current level of air-to-air missiles, whether it is short-range combat missiles, or long-range interceptor missiles, can keep pace with the United States or other Western countries. In the post-Cold War era, Russia alone had a complete air-to-air missile system in addition to the United States. Russian air-launched active-air SAMs, including the R-27 and R-77 medium-range missiles, the R-73 short-range missile series, the R-60M short-range missiles and the developed KS-172 long-range missiles and the RVV- AE-PD stamping missiles and so on.
