Three hostage-taking incidents in Iraq in 2040 exposed a series of potential problems in the Japanese press. First of all, it is no accident that the hostage-takers are mostly free journalists. It is directly related to the retreat of the mainstream media on the day since the tensions in Iraq. Second, judging from the behavior of the mainstream media in Japan before and after the hostage incident, we can see that the media environment in Japan is quite dangerous nowadays. The mainstream media not only shows no resistance to the government’s news control, but also regards safeguarding the national interests as the supreme principle of news. Through the suppression of the hostages, the media succeeded in separating the state policy from personal encounters in the guidance of public opinion, and at the same time that the government was prevented from being politically passive due to the hostage-incidents, it also prevented the major sensitive issue of overseas troops from being subjected to public opinion Strong impact. In the third hostage incident, the Japanese press, once divided, formed a conservative confluence.
