Objective To detect the metal particles left on the wound surface after cutting the bone by chopper with scanning electron microscope / X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM / EDX). Methods Five different types of kitchen knives were used to cut the pig’s thigh bone. Qualitative and quantitative tests were carried out on the metal particles attached to the bone wound surface and the elements contained in the kitchen knife using SEM / EDX, and the results were compared analysis. Results The results showed no significant difference (P> 0.05) between the same type of chopper and the same model. The metal particles attached to the wound surface had the same characteristics with the types of elements contained in the chopper. The percentage of the weight of the wound surface was the same (P> 0.05) ; Conclusion The types and percentage contents of the metal particles left over from the skeletal wounds can be used as an important basis for distinguishing the cleaver from the kitchen knife.
