In recent years, the rapid rise of China’s economy has drawn worldwide attention. However, with the rapid economic growth, China has become a big consuming country with resource-based commodities such as copper, iron ore and oil. However, China’s rising share in the iron ore import market has not given China the right to price iron ore equivalent to its spending power. The big trading nations have to face the embarrassment and frustration of “pricing a small country.” Since China became the world’s largest importer of iron ore in 2003, the China Iron and Steel Association took an active part in iron ore price negotiations as an industry organization. However, China’s import volume advantage did not affect the market price and eventually it had to accept Japan And European steel companies and mining prices reached the price. The contradiction between big trading nations and small countries in pricing has become an unavoidable embarrassing fact for many industries in our country. So, what are the relevant factors that affect pricing power? This article will discuss some issues about iron ore pricing power.
