从宏观形态上看古戏楼与古代宫殿建筑,民居建筑,亭台楼阁建筑,宗教建筑全然不同,因为它们所承载的用途不同,或者说本质上功能不同。这就必然导致了古戏楼的设计理念与别的建筑不同,这些都是直接影响一座建筑内部结构、外观、建设位置、建筑材料等方面的主要因素,而这些具体因素则是其建筑风格的具体反映。今天的古戏楼遗存,它更大的意义都只是作为文化上的一种符号而存在,摆脱不了覆灭的宿命。而这种“文化符号”最终应如何在当下社会背景下来解读,又能展现出什么养的文化内涵?则完全依赖于对古戏楼遗存的实体研究。进入实际操作层面,其建筑风格就成为最为直接有力的解读对象。
