With the rapid economic development in our country and the improvement of people’s living standards, China’s tourism industry is facing unprecedented opportunities, with the consequent increase in tourism talent gap. Every year, vocational colleges and universities are training a large number of tourism professionals. In the case of such a huge gap, graduates still encounter employment difficulties and even leave the tourism industry to engage in other industries when they graduate. The sharp contrast caused the author to reflect. Based on the material collection, interviews with graduates and employers and questionnaires, the author finds the contradiction between the cost of investment in education and the profits of the industry, the contradiction between the limitations of higher vocational education and the high standards of professionals in the tourism industry, and Contradictions between graduates’ expectations and industry expectations. In response to these problems, the author puts forward some suggestions on how to cultivate students’ awareness of lifelong learning, build a platform between students and enterprises, and strengthen the education of career planning and professional ethics so as to further improve the employment status of tourism graduates in higher vocational colleges.
