As early as the late 1950s, it showed the world trend that steam locomotives will be replaced by modern traction methods. The steam locomotive has reached the limit of its development in terms of power, energy use and economy. For the requirements of improving traction power, saving energy costs and saving labor, especially to improve working conditions and living conditions of locomotive factory workers and maintenance personnel, only by internal combustion traction and electric traction can be achieved. With the 1955 Halle-Carden Railway section of electric traction put into operation, they began the transformation of traction power. Internal combustion traction began in 1958/1959.
