This paper analyzes a residual carrier digital modulation technology. It is used in the transmission and earth station receiving equipment of high-resolution satellite cloud images distributed by the third generation of polar orbiting weather satellites in the United States - TIROS-N series of satellites. The original modulation technology called “S with phase modulation”, for the sake of consistency, following the use of this name. The paper discusses the working principle of the modulation technique, the mathematical expression of the modulation signal, the signal power spectral density, the cross-correlation coefficient between signals, the demodulation bit error rate and so on.
