糖槭树是槭树科槭树属糖材兼用的优良经济树种,主要分布在北美.据报导,北美槭糖浆最高年产达九百万加仑,其中加拿大年产300万加仑,美国年产100~150万加仑.在亚洲,日本的北海道亦生产少量槭糖浆.现在加拿大食用糖大部分来自糖槭树(以糖槭、黑糖槭、银糖槭和红糖槭四种含糖量最高,约为4~6%).用糖槭树的树液炼制成的槭糖浆似蜂蜜,清彻、透明,其成份是蔗糖占85%,余为葡萄糖,果糖.同时在炼制过程中形成香草精类芳香化合物,故清香可口.槭糖浆可添加于糕点及冷饮上,亦可制成食用糖块,深受北美人民喜爱.
