宁镇丘陵地区土壤缺硼相当严重,据溧阳、高淳、江宁、溧水等4县61个土壤样品的分析,土壤含硼量0.1～0.3ppm的土样有59个,占96.72％,0.3～0.5ppm的只有2个,占3.28％。近年来,太湖平原、里下河及沿江地区也由于土壤缺硼,甘蓝型油菜花而不实的现象逐年加重。因此,1983年以来,我们在溧阳、高淳等县进行了田间施硼试验,并取得初步结果,1985年在扩大示范基础上已推广应用100万亩以上。
