Primary brain tumors are the most common neurosurgical diseases with a mortality rate of 7% of all cancer deaths. Understanding the molecular pathways of primary brain tumors is crucial for defining the relevant therapeutic targets. The SOX gene is a family of transcriptional regulators of development that determine cell fate and maintain progenitor identity during embryonic development. Mutations and dysfunction of SOX factors are closely related to human diseases including various cancers. By deciphering the signal pathways controlled by SOX in primary brain tumors, it is beneficial to understand the occurrence, development and biological characteristics of brain tumors, and to provide novel candidate molecules for targeted therapy of primary brain tumors and more valuable Treatment programs.
