近年来,国内外的定期文献报导了在沉积和热液铀矿床中形成工业富集的新铀矿物-铀石。在许多文章中引述了关于铀石的物理特性和含杂质矿物的化学分析结果。根据这些结果,目前还不能准确地确定出铀石的化学式,初步表示公式如下:U(SiO_4)_(1-x)(OH)_(4x)(Stieff,Stern,Scherwood,1955)。实验取得的物质是淡绿色的,共结构与天然铀石相同,且相当于USiO_4的成分(Hoekstra,Fu-chs,1956)。推测“沥青石”中的铀石也具有这种成份(Abdel-Gawad,Kerr,1961)。
