历朝文人都偏爱竹子,以致凡夫俗子也极力附庸,以示风雅。竹之孤高、气节、虚怀、纤秀常常被反复吟诵,名篇佳句代代相传。晋代王徽之生性爱竹,就是暂居他人空室,也要令人种竹,还说:“何可一日无此君”。郑板桥一生写竹画竹,其爱至深,有《竹石》为证:“风中雨中有声,日中月中有影,诗中酒中有情,闷中闲中有伴,非唯我爱竹石,即竹石亦爱我也!”观此竹,嶙峋的石崖上,三杆修影交错,竹叶斑驳。阵风袭来,枝叶萧萧而鸣,而竹根却屹然不动,与山岩融为一体。此石构图奇妙,符合画理,对比强烈,动势强劲,意境深远。得意忘形时,不禁脱口而吟:
