Reporter’s Notes In 2005, there were only eight schools offering Chinese courses in Ohio. By 2010, 127 schools in the state have opened Chinese classes, and the number of students has increased from about 700 to about 7,000. Behind this increase in numbers is one person who has contributed to this. He is Professor Wu Weike, who founded the first doctoral program in Chinese language throughout the United States. Wu Weike engaged in teaching Chinese for more than 30 years, training thousands of Chinese students. He advocates learning the language from the perspective of Chinese culture and is dedicated to cultivating students who really understand China. And his origins with China began when he read Lin’s works from his childhood.
