In 1878, the first outbreak of bird flu in Italy started to make people aware of this highly contagious infectious disease. In May 1997, Hong Kong, China, the world’s first human case of H5N1 infection was reported. In the ensuing months, a total of 18 people were infected with the bird flu virus and more than 18 million chickens were slaughtered. At present, outbreaks of bird flu have taken place in Canada, Romania, Vietnam, South Korea and other countries and regions in our country. Large numbers of poultry have been slaughtered, causing heavy losses to aquaculture production. The bird flu problem has aroused the panic of the general public. However, due to the use of chicken manure during aquaculture, it will not affect aquaculture, which has also caused some aquaculture farmers’ worries.
