This article briefly introduced the development and application of resin coated proppants in western countries since the mid 1970s. Since such proppant overcomes the inherent disadvantages of traditional proppant sand and ceramsite, it not only prevents the proppant from being crushed and spit out. It also reduces the drawbacks of proppants embedded in the formation. In addition, the use of this type of proppant also prevents the migration of fines and thus enables the fractures to maintain good long-term permeability at higher closure stresses. At present, many proppants in the United States have extensively used such proppants to replace sand and ceramsite. In this paper, indoor evaluation and field use examples show that it is effective in hydraulic fracturing operation than traditional proppants, and has a significant effect on oilfield yield increase. Economic analysis shows that it is a kind of new type of hydraulic fracturing proppant which is the most economical, reasonable and well-developed.
