Objective To investigate the characteristics and related factors of post-stroke depression. Methods Zung’s depression self-rating scale (SDS) was used to measure the emotional status of 176 stroke patients confirmed by cranial CT and MR I. Comparisons were made according to stroke course, limb muscle strength and non-depression group. Results The incidence of post-stroke depression was 46.6%. The duration of depression was more likely to be depressed at 3-6 months. The severity of depression after stroke was negatively correlated with the strength of limbs. Conclusions Depression symptoms are common complication of stroke, and its occurrence is closely related to the course of disease and limb muscle strength.
