航空工程的先驱者、美国加州理工学院冯·卡门教授有句名言:“科学家研究已有的世界,工程师创造未来的世界。”工程师给人类提供一个什么样的生存环境,应该是我们每一个人都关心的问题。工程教育正是培养这种工程技术人才的专门教育。在当今世界,科学技术发展与更新越来越快,工程技术对经济与社会的推动作用越来越重要,而工程技术人才的培养直接决定工程技术的水平和发展的速度,决定国家的工业竞争力。因此,世界各国特别是工业发达国家都在大力推进工程教育的改革与发展,力争培养出更高质量的人才,以保持在竞争中的有利地位。该文认为,我国正处于工业化过程之中,来自国际竞争的压力越来越大,能否尽快培养与造就一大批高质量、多层次的工程技术人才,就成为提高国家工业竞争力、实现强国之梦的关键。——编者
