《现代文学》创刊于1960年3月,在第一阶段的51期中,共刊出了70位作家的206篇小说作品。那时的台湾地区仍然处于社会巨变后的转型期、融合期,作为中国国土的一部分,既有的文化、文学传统因为与大陆隔海对峙而被生生割裂,整个社会都因此而面临着巨大的精神困惑,充满着迷茫与焦虑。因此,在社会客观发展状况和作家主观能动性的合力打造下,《现代文学》中的小说展示出一个充满了焦虑、失落、叛逆、放纵、欺骗、堕落等消极情绪和行为的文学世界。无论是小说作家还是小说人物,都在不断地寻觅着精神出路。 “Modern Literature” was first published in March 1960, and during the first phase of 51 issues, a total of 206 novel works by 70 writers were published.
