This paper reports a mobile polarographic detector for the determination of rare earth elements. After the rare earth element mixture was separated by high speed ion exchange chromatography, a test solution containing DTPA (diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid) or DCTA [1,2cyclohexamethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (trans)] was injected at a constant flow rate by a pump The column effluent is mixed and passed through the cell containing the drop mercury electrode. When rare earth elements appear in the eluent, the anodic diffusion current of the ammonia-carboxy complexing agent decreases due to the complexation of the amine carboxy complexing agent (DTPA or DCTA) with the rare earth element. Experiments show that the peak height of the polarographic signal is proportional to the content of rare earth elements in the eluent.
