英国作家约翰·韦恩极少受到国内批评界的关注,他常常湮没在英国“愤怒的青年”一代作家群中。但是作为一位过渡时期的作家,他的小说创作独树一帜,从形式到主题既有传统的一面,又有现代甚至后现代的一面。本文对他的小说创作进行梳理和概括,认为他的作品主要关注现代人的处境,探索现代人的出路,描写他们在幻灭与绝望中的挣扎以及最后与现实妥协以求得生存的人生历程。 British writer John Wayne, rarely caught the attention of critics in the country, is often buried in a group of writers in the British “Angry Youngsters”. However, as a transitional writer, his novels are unique in their writing. They have both the traditional and the modern post-modern aspects from the form to the topic. This paper sorts out and generalizes his novels. He holds that his works mainly focus on the present situation of the modern people, explore the way out for the modern people, describe their life course in the struggle of disillusionment and despair and finally compromise with the reality in order to survive.
