元宝山冷杉和资源冷杉于近年在融水县和资源县寒冷潮湿高山首次发现,它不仅丰富了我国南方植物分布的新纪录,为高山营林增加新树种,且为南方古代植物区系的发生和演变及古气候、古地理提供了资料。这两新种冷杉间木材区别:元宝山冷杉晚材带淡红褐,树脂气较淡,管胞较短小,树脂细胞管胞型,数少,胞腔树脂量稀,射线细胞水平壁薄于垂直壁,交叉场纹孔1—3个常1—2个。这两种冷杉与其他冷杉木材构造区别:生长轮微波形,明显,在径面射线中具红黄色斑点,射线薄壁细胞水平壁无凹痕,垂直壁无节状加厚。两者材性特点:密度轻软,生长轮狭而晚材率小,弦径干缩比小至中。元宝山冷杉木材质量系数高,强度性质中,强重比除硬度、抗劈力低外,其余为中等。
