In many parts of our region, land production conditions vary greatly. Too much low-yield fields have become a major obstacle to further increases in food production. In some places, in order to blindly pursue output and increase investment in fertilizer, the result is a “declining effect of fertilizer efficiency.” The more thinning the soil is, the more soil compaction and the tillage become worse. This has become an urgent problem to be solved in agricultural production. Xie Shan, a small farmer from Hangjinhou Banner, paid special attention to the transformation of low-yielding fields and accumulated his experience in improving low-yielding fields. In 1982, he contracted 30 mu of cultivated land with a yield of only 200-250 kilograms per mu. He comprehensively adopted several measures to continuously improve the soil fertility and increase the average grain yield by more than one kilogram per year.
