This article investigates the impact of different exam media on the performance of candidates. Emphasis will be placed on whether there is any discrepancy between the candidate’s test scores and the mechanical test scores, the influence of different test media on the candidate’s answer time, and the correlation between the candidate’s English proficiency and machine test scores. The target audience was 62 English majors in the first semester of the next year in Beijing. According to the students’ grades in the previous semester, they were divided into two groups of equal level: paper and pencil group and machine-test group. Two groups of students to participate in the same English course exam, the contents of the papers exactly the same exam time is the same. The results of comparative analysis of two groups of students show that different examination modes have no significant effect on the students’ grades. However, the test scores of middle school students in the test group were lower than that of the paper and pen group, and the difference was significant, which indicated that the mode of computer test had an impact on the test scores of the students. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the answer time. Candidates in the higher level of English, machine test scores higher.
