言为心声,人物语言是其内心世界的流露。在戏剧文学中人物的刻画、精节的开展、主题的表现……都是依靠人物台词来实现的。大文豪高尔基在《论剧本》中指出:“剧中人物之被创造出来,仅仅是依靠他们的台词,即纯粹的口语,而不是叙述的语言。”字词的音相同或相近产生的谐音,在戏剧人物“台词”中巧用,往往含蓄隽永,耐人咀嚼,发人深思,给人留下不尽的余味。语言大师老舍的话剧《茶馆》里有这么一段对白——
Words are the voices, character language is the expression of its inner world.
