Wood liked fish very much, and when he had enough money,he bought some for his dinner in the market and took it home. But when his wife saw the fish, she always said to herself,“Now I can invite some good friends to lunch and we will eat the fish. They like fish very much.”
So when Wood came home from work in the evening, the fish was never there, and his wife always said,“Oh,your cat ate it!She is a very bad animal!”And Wood had to eat soup and rice for his dinner.
But one evening when this hapened once again,Wood became very angry. He took the cat and his wife to the shop near his house and weighed the cat carefully. Then he turned to his wife and said,“My fish weighed three pounds. This cat weighs three pound too. My fish is here, you say. Then where is my cat?”

One night there was a heavy snowstorm, and in the morning Wood?蒺s garden was full of deep snow. Wood wanted to drive his car out,so he paid a man to clean the path from his garage to his gate. He said to the man,“Don?蒺t throw any snow on that side, because it will damage(损坏) the bushes in my garden;and don?蒺t throw any on the other side, because it will break my fence. And don?蒺t throw any into the street,or the police will be angry.”Then Wood went out.
After some time,Wood came back and found the path very clean. The snow was not on the bushes, nor the fence, nor the street. Wood was pleased first, but when he opened the garage to get his car out,he was surprised and got very angry:The garage was full to the top with the snow from the path, and his car was somewhere under it all!

It was Christmas, and there was a big party in the house. Guests came and went, but the party continued. Then the bell rang.“Come in!”some people shouted. Wood pushed the door open and came in. Nobody knew him but the host went to meet him and took him to the bar for a drink. Wood sat there happily and drank for half an hour. Then suddenly he stopped and looked at his host,“Do you know,”he said,“nobody invited me to this party. I don?蒺t know you, I don?蒺t know your wife and I don?蒺t know any of your guests. My wife and I had wanted to go out in our car,but one of your guests?蒺 cars was in front of our gate,so I came here to find him. And my wife is waiting in our car for me to come back!”

Wood married, and when his new wife saw the clothes in his cupboard(橱柜),she said,“You have only got one good shirt. The others are very old,and they?蒺ve got holes in them. I?蒺m going to buy you a new one this afternoon.”
Wood liked his old shirts, but he loved his wife too,so he said,“All right, but please don?蒺t throw any of my old ones away.”
Wood went to work, and when he came back in the evening, his wife said to him,“Look,I?蒺ve bought you a nice shirt. Here it is. Put it on.”
Wood put the shirt on and said,“Look at the sleeves. They?蒺re too long.”
“That?蒺s all right,”said his wife.“They?蒺ll get shorter after I wash the shirt.”
Then Wood said,“But the neck?蒺s too small.”
“That?蒺s all right. It?蒺ll get bigger when you wear the shirt.”his wife answered.
