袁振英是广东东莞人,少年跟随父亲袁居敦赴香港谋生。1915年6月,袁振英毕业于香港皇仁书院。同年秋考入北京大学英文学门。1920年8月参加上海共产党早期组织,并与俞秀松、施存统等8人发起成立上海社会主义青年团。随后应陈独秀邀请参与编辑《新青年》,担任“俄罗斯研究”专栏主编,另外还负责《共产党》月刊的编辑工作,并在上海外国语学社教英文。同年底,随陈独秀到广州,任陈独秀和魏金斯基的粤语翻译。1921年1月,出任广东省第一中学(今广州广雅中学)校长,在全国率先实行中
Yuan Zhenying is a native of Dongguan, Guangdong Province. His father, Yuan Ju’dun, went to Hong Kong to earn a living. In June 1915, Yuan Zhenying graduated from Hong Kong Royal College. In the autumn of the same year admitted to Peking University English School.
