1998年5月2日至3日,欧盟理事会确定了首批进入欧元体系的国家名单,奥地利、比利时、芬兰、法国、德国、爱尔兰、意大利、卢森堡、荷兰、葡萄牙、西班牙等11国登上了欧元头班车。1999年1月1日,欧洲中央银行正式实行单一货币政策,在非现金交易中引入欧元。2002年1月1日,欧元硬币、纸币将投入流通,六个月后,各国原有货币的法定货币地位将被取消。这些必将给世界经济带来巨大影响,国际商业、金融领域将出现重大变化。作为中南重点经济发展地区,湖北省近年外贸发展迅速,1997年进出口总额达32.8亿美元,比1978年增长了18倍。其中对欧出口额排在第三位,欧盟在湖北经济活动中发挥着越来越重要的作用,欧元的启动必将对我省经贸事业乃至整个宏观经济的发展产生一系列的影响。

The launch of the euro will surely exert a series of influences on the economic and trade as well as macroeconomic development in our province.
