Objective To investigate the equilibrium shift of Th1 / Th2 in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and its role in the pathogenesis. Methods Twenty-one Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) and 45 healthy subjects (control group) from the First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University from January 2004 to January 2006 were enrolled in this study. Flow cytometry was used to detect the percentage of CD4 + CCR5 + and CD4 + CD30 + cells, with their respective percentages and mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) as an indication of the intensity of the Th1 / Th2 immune response. Results The percentage of CD4 + CCR5 + and CD4 + CD30 + cells in HT group was higher than that in control group (P <0.05), and the MFI of both groups was positively correlated with the concentration of thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb). Conclusion The expression of CCR5 + and CD30 + in HT patients are increased, suggesting that Th1 and Th2 cells may participate in the pathogenesis of HT.
