光纤通信技术的研究在我国起始于1974年,光纤之所以发展迅速是因为具备很多优点,比如重量比较轻、传输距离远、体积比较小、抗电磁干扰能力强以及传输频带比较宽等等。光纤通信在目前的邮电通信系统中的应用比较广泛,发展的速度也比较快,光纤通信相比电缆通信在性能上十分优越,所以竞争力也比较强,逐步的取代电缆通信成为电信网中最主要的传输工具。因此光纤通信即将成为通信技术在未来发展的主要方式。
