Objective: This study was aimed to evaluate a new optimized partially biodegradable distraction Implant (PBDIs) by radiological, histological, and biomechanical tests in animal models with atrophied mandibles.Material and Methods: Five days after insertion, the PBDIs were activated at a rate of 1 mm/2 days to achieve a distraction height of 6 mm.Radiographs were taken at 0, 1, 2, and 3 months after distraction.Three dogs were sacrificed after 1, 2, and 3 months, respectively.The regenerated bone in the distraction gap and osseointegration around the function part taken from different time points were evaluated by microcomputed tomographic (MicroCT) scanning and histological examination.Biomechanical property of PBDI was also evaluated by fatigue test.
