Our recent study on the redox chemistry of borane revealed an intriguing sequential electron and hydrogen atom transfer reaction upon chemical reduction of a protic hydrogen containing borane.1 To further increase the Lewis acidity of group 13 derivatives, we have also prepared a series of dicationic group 13 compounds that feature a coordinatively flexible Cp* moiety and a strong sigma-donating N-heterocyclic carbene ligand.
