Growing attentions have been focused on the relationship between brain and heart, for it will be helpful for treating the illness about emotion and heart. The early researches found that different heartbeat perceivers have different heartbeat evoked potential (HEP) waves, but no significant differences were found in heart rate between good and poor heartbeat perceivers. In order to check up the early opinions, two tasks (attention and resting state) were considered in our experiment.30 channels of Electroencephalogram (EEG) were recorded in 22 subjects, who were subdivided into good and poor heartbeat perceivers by mental tracking task.Three methods were applied to tease out the cardiac field artifact (CFA) in this paper.By comparison, principal component analysis (PCA) had a better result than Perez model method and independent component analysis (ICA).The experimental results indicated significant HEP differences in peak latency and amplitude between good and poor heartbeat perceivers in both attention and resting state. The study also showed that there were obvious difference waveforms between attention and resting state for good heartbeat perceivers from 200 ms to 500 ms after the R wave whereas there werent for poor heartbeat population.Whats more, strong negative relationship between heartbeat perception ability and heart rate was found (P < 0.01,r =-0.573),thats,the good heartbeat perceivers (mean perception score:0.95,average heart rate:61 bpm) tended to have slower heart rates than poor ones (mean perception score:0.73,average heart rate:78 bpm),which was different from Bestlers early report.
