As the world faces more and more public security threatens,novel technologies are needed to detect weapons,explosives and other dangerous items concealed on human bodies.Terahertz waves that can penetrate peoples clothes have offered a potential solution to this problem.Compared to X-ray technology,terahertz photons have lower energy and no confirmed evidence has been found that they are harmful for human bodies.A lot of research has been done world-wide in recent years on security screening using both active and passive terahertz wave imaging technologies.Several primitive machines were built,and some of them have successfully been converted into products entering the market recently.In this talk,we give a brief review of the current status and market expectation of terahertz imaging for security screening.Aiming for applications in real-life scenarios,a few representative products are discussed.Future technology trends are also analyzed.
