Purpose: Indomethacin 5-fluorouracil-1-ylmethy1 ester (IFM) was synthesized in our laboratory for the first time.Degradation kinetics in aqueous solutions of IFM were investigated to evaluate its potential as prodrug with the aim of enhancing the delivery characteristics of the parent drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU).Methods: The hydrolysis kinetics of IFM was investigated as a function of pH,temperatures and buffers. The degradation was followed by HPLC.Results: The pH-rate profiles for hydrolysis of IFM were obtained at 298, 310, 323 and 333 K and maximum stability was observed in the pH region from 3.6 to 5.8.Conclusion: The degradation kinetics of JFM complied with the first order kinetics.
