Several analytical approaches for the determination of organic acids in different types of samples have been reported.Recently ion chromatography (IC) has made great progresses, especially in the suppressed conductivity detection mode, which provides a greater sensitivity than the UV or RI detection.Gradient with suppressed conductivity detection has become an effective IC technique for separation of a wide variety of organic and inorganic substances in real complex samples.In our study, a method was established for simultaneously analyzing 13 organic acids, including lactate, acetate, propionate, formate, pyruvate, glutarate, succinate, malate, α-ketoglutarate, fumarate, oxalate, citrate and isocitrate.A Dionex ICS-2500 IC systems with an IonPac AS 11-HC analytical column and suppressed conductivity detector under an auto-suppresion external sulfuric acid mode were employed.An NaOH gradient elution containing methanol contributed to sufficient separation.The addition of methanol to the eluents improves the separation of succinate and malate.
