A new method of constructing three-dimensional(3-D)signal constellations for digital modulation in wireless communication systems was proposed, which largely eases the design efforts of 3-D constellations through decoupling the 3-D space into layered two-dimensional(2-D)layers.Its advantages is shown by a new 16-ary 3-D signal constellation yielding a minimum Euclidean distance(MED)smaller than that of existing schemes under the same power constraint.
