Olivine,as one MgO containing material,can be used as one type of fluxing additives for sinter,pellet and blast furnace.In this work,the benefits of using olivine flux for agglomerate-and iron-making processes were analyzed.The results show that olivine mainly contributes on(1)an increased productivity at the sinter bed;(2)a stable and better blast furnace operation by improving the permeability inside the blast furnace and an effective sulfur and alkalis removal; and(3)lower energy consumption.In addition,a theoretical low CO2 emission can be achieved for olivine compared to other fluxes of dolomite and serpentine.Perspectives and challenges of using olivine were further addressed.
