Objective: To investigate Monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT4) expression in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients and its role in cancer maintenance and aggressiveness. Methods: The MCT4 expression in 99 cases of OSCC was examined by immunohistochemistry.Based on these patients information and their follow-up data, the correlations of the MCT4 level with patients clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis were further evaluated by statistical analyses using Fisher exact test and Kaplan-Meier method respectively. To further study mechanisms of MCT4 in vitro, we used small-interfering RNA to silence its expression in OSCC cell lines.
