Machine vision based precision system for automatic assembly of miniature parts is a feasible and practical implementation.A system was developed for automatization of the manual assembly in manufacturing miniature products to increase product conformity and production efficiency.Combined the requirement of both of microassembly and traditional precision assembly,the developed system had to overcome the following difficulties,including:(1) the difference in size of the parts to be assembled is quite large,ranging from sub micrometer to tens of millimeter; (2) the parts are made from different materials and have different shapes and surface features; (3) tolerances of both position and orientation should be guaranteed; etc.The system and the associated techniques of machine vision based assembly of miniature parts are introduced in the paper.
