The ability to detect changes in patterns of protein expression between normal and abnormal cells or tissues is of great importance to the field of biomarker discovery.Most work in this area has been performed using 2D polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (2D-PAGE), which offers very high resolution separations but suffers from drawbacks including bias against certain classes of proteins and difficulty of coupling to mass spectrometry.Therefore, ample motivation exists for development of alternative strategies for differential proteomics.
